Lubricants Can’t Be Green … Can They? | (PDF - 753KB)
The goal of this paper is to show that an unlikely industry – lubrication – can be very green through responsibly planned purchasing, storage, use and disposal; and to challenge the limited regulatory view of green lubricants that fails to consider longer lubricant and component life, and decreased energy use.

Reliable Hydraulic System Operation Through Proper Fluid Selection & Maintenance | (PDF - 1,723KB)
This paper describes how hydraulic fluids are classified for various types of equipment and how these classifications are used to ensure that the proper fluid is chosen. It also explains how specific attributes affect the performance of the oil. The intent is to make it easier for a person new to the hydraulic power field to optimize equipment reliability through proper fluid selection, monitoring and maintenance.

Improving Chain Lubrication - Using Right Lubricant for Operating Environment Can Extend Chain Life, Even in Dusty or Wet Conditions
The majority of chains used in industry suffer unnecessarily short lives. This leads many companies to forego chains completely and replace them with belts. In most cases, however, the problem is not the fault of the chains but rather the method in which they are lubricated.

Improving Oven Chain Lubrication - The Importance of Effective, Correct Lubrication of High-Temperature Environments in the Food Industry
Significant operational efficiencies can be achieved by selecting chain lubricants and application methods that match the specific operating environment and failure mode of the chain. As illustrated by several case studies, an application-specific chain lubricant designed to combat the enemy (water, dust, heat, etc.) saves a considerable amount of money in downtime, cleaning, lubrication, repairs, replacement chain and even electricity.

The Right Turbine Oil for Power Plants
Within the past few years, many power producers using the peaking operating cycle have experienced turbine operation reliability problems. Among the major concerns in gas turbines are oil consumption and the formation of varnish and sludge. Steam turbine operators have experienced increased problems related to foaming, oxidation, loss of water separation and sludge buildup. Fortunately, research has begun to point out new ways to help mitigate these problems. One suggestion is to evaluate the current condition of the oil in the unit, and – if the condition is problematic – change the oil.

Steam Turbine Oil Challenges
The main piece of equipment used by power plants to produce electricity is the turbine; if it does not run, the plant does not produce electricity. Aside from turbine blade failures, the most common turbine reliability issues are bearing and control system failures, which often can be traced back to lubrication-related issues. This paper will focus on varnish and other problems seen in steam turbines and will offer suggestions for how operators can overcome them.

When do Synthetic Lubricants Make Sense?
This paper provides an overview of the three chemical category types of lubricants, defines synthetic lubricants and describes the major types, including their general applications, benefits and disadvantages, in order to help alleviate some of the confusion for lubricant end users as they select lubricants for their equipment.

Purchasing Gear Lubricants: Be Careful When Playing the Numbers Game
When it comes to purchasing gear lubricants, many people on both the sales and purchasing sides decide to play the numbers game. However, gear oil selection is not a game, and numbers alone cannot determine the right product for an application.
